Hey Guys, as usual I’m always grinding through the Bitcoin layers, keeping things sovereign and straightforward. As a heavy Layerz Wallet user who loves moving sats seamlessly across Lightning, Ark, Spark, Liquid, Rootstock, and yes, Botanix, I’ve been watching this one closely. Not every experiment sticks the landing, but the Botanix team deserves serious respect for how they’re closing shop.
They built an ambitious EVM-compatible L2 on Bitcoin’s Spiderchain for years, delivered real transactions and innovation without the usual hype machine, and now they’re winding it down with full transparency, a clear postmortem, and ample notice for users. That level of accountability in crypto? It’s rare and admirable. Kudos to the whole team – they pushed Bitcoin utility forward even if the broader market wasn’t quite ready.
If you’re holding BTC (or related assets) on Botanix via Layerz Wallet or any EVM setup, now’s the time to act. The network shuts down operations with a hard deadline of July 9, 2026. Get your sats back to mainnet Bitcoin where they belong – secure, self-custodial, and free from any federation sweep risks.
Respect for the Botanix Journey
Four years of building, a year on mainnet with millions of transactions and thousands of wallets – no hacks, solid tech. They were honest: Bitcoin DeFi demand wasn’t there yet, fees couldn’t sustain it, and most folks still treat BTC as pristine digital gold rather than a DeFi playground.
Their straightforward “it did not work” reflection shows real integrity. As someone who values thoughtful Bitcoin layering (shoutout to Layerz making multi-layer life easier), I appreciate projects that exit gracefully. Lessons here will fuel better builds ahead.
Urgent Steps for Layerz Wallet Users (and Everyone Else)
LayerzWallet shines for Bitcoin-native swaps across layers, including Botanix support. Use it where possible for seamless moves, but for full withdrawals, you’ll combine it with the official bridge and yield tools (available inside LayerzWallet).
Here’s the complete playbook:
1. Unstake from Yield Products (stBTC / Staked Botanix)
If you’ve been earning yield on stBTC (the liquid staking token that redistributed BTC gas fees), redeem it first. The yield site is still active for now – don’t delay.
Step 1: Head to https://yield.botanixlabs.com/ and connect your EVM wallet (Layerz has integrated support). Simply select the Botanix Layer and click on the explorer which will take you to the Yield Section.
Step 2: Make sure your wallet is connected, if not select the botanix network
Step 3: Go to the Request tab: Enter the amount of stBTC you want to redeem/unstake.
Step 4: Confirm the transaction (small gas in BTC).
Step 2: Switch to the Claim tab: Enter the claim amount, sign, and receive your underlying BTC (principal + accrued yield) back into your Botanix wallet. Each step takes ~20 seconds with confirmations.
Do this promptly - yield interfaces may wind down early.
2. Unwrap Any Wrapped Botanix BTC
Botanix uses a native BTC representation (sometimes called synthetic or wrapped-like for EVM compatibility). If you hold wrapped variants or stBTC remnants:
Step 1: Swap or redeem via DEX activity (e.g., Bitzy or remaining pools) to convert to standard Botanix BTC. In LayerzWallet select the Botanix Layer -> Explore -> Check out Botanix dApps.
Step 2: Scroll and select your DEX – I used “Bitzy”
Step 3: Select “Start Trading”
Step 4: Select pBTC in the from drop down
Step 5: Hit “Unwrap”
Step 6: A confirmation window will pop up with the transaction details, tap “Allow”
Step 7: The confirm and send window appears, hit confirm and send
* For stBTC specifically, the un-staking above handles most of this.
** In Layerz Wallet, check your Botanix balances and use built-in swaps to consolidate to native BTC form before bridging. Verify addresses carefully – Layerz helps simplify multi-layer routing.
No complex custodian unwraps here like traditional WBTC; it’s mostly internal redemption to the pegged BTC.
3. Withdraw Botanix BTC to On-Chain (Mainnet) Bitcoin
Now move your consolidated BTC back to L1.
Prerequisites:
- Layerz Wallet or EVM wallet (LayerzWallet) connected to Botanix with visible BTC balance.
- A secure Bitcoin mainnet address ready (Layerz will do this automatically).
- Extra sats for gas + fees.
Steps via Official Bridge:
Step 1: Select the Botanix Layer, then tap “Explore” and select “Bridge”
Step 2: Connect your wallet (Layerz should integrate smoothly for Botanix).
Step 3: Switch to the Withdraw tab.
Step 4: Enter the amount (use percentage buttons; min ~0.0001 BTC). You might need to drop a digit or to at the end to cover gas fees but this should be less that $0.05)
Step 5: Paste your verified Bitcoin L1 recipient address. (LayerzWallet will auto-polulate this address for you)
Step 6: Review fees and details, then confirm in your wallet.
Step 7: Track progress in the bridge history. It processes in the next epoch (~1 minute), then releases on mainnet via multisig (usually ~10 minutes, monitor on mempool.space). It could take longer but if after 24hours you have not received your funds on-chain you need to reach out to Botanix support.
* Layerz Wallet users: After bridging, your sats will land on mainnet – use Layerz to route further if needed (e.g., to Lightning).
** Fees: Botanix gas + Bitcoin network fees – transparent and deducted automatically.
Other Assets & Troubleshooting
- Non-BTC tokens: Swap to BTC first if possible; otherwise, they may be unrecoverable post-deadline.
- Issues? Double-check balances, addresses, and gas. Use official channels only – scams will pop up.
- Test small if unsure.
Security & Final Advice
- Hardware wallets for anything meaningful.
- Never share seeds.
- Act now to beat congestion and last-minute stress.
- Layerz makes ongoing Bitcoin layer management easier – great tool for what comes next.
The Botanix team handled this with class; let’s honor that by securing our assets responsibly. Bitcoin’s base layer remains king – experiments like this strengthen the ecosystem long-term.
